Increases to Country Prizemoney and “The Big Dance” Race Announcement
The Tweed River Jockey Club welcomes the announcement from Racing NSW outlining the
following for Country Racing within the State.
Prizemoney Increase – Effective 1 July 2022
• Minimum Prizemoney increase for Picnic Racing to $5,000 per race.
• Country TAB Minimum Prizemoney will increase to $25,000 per race.
The above increases in minimum prizemoney come on top of increases that came into effect
from 1 July 2021 that included increases for all tiers of Country Racing.
Racing NSW also announced the introduction of “The Big Dance”
‘The Big Dance’, a new $2 million 1600m race to be conducted at Royal Randwick on
Melbourne Cup Day each year. This race will provide a new feature event for the Sydney
Spring Carnival and provide further opportunity to engage new customers.
Eligibility for The Big Dance will be restricted to horses contesting one of 25 selected NSW
Country Cups throughout the year.
The Tweed River Jockey Club anticipate that the Riverview Hotel Murwillumbah Cup run over
1550m on Friday 19th August 2022 will come under review as one of the 25 Country Cups
currently being considered a qualification race for “The Big Dance”.
