GOLD Coast trainer Bruce Hill pulled the right rein when Ecker Road burst to a dominant win in today’s $20,000 Murwillumbah Cellars Benchmark 58 Handicap (1100m).
Hill did accept with him in the Class 1 1200m where he had the 59kg topweight.
However he elected to run in the shorter (1100m) B58 and despite having an extra kilogram he raced away with the fifth event on Cup day with Gold Coast jockey Rikki Palmer in the saddle.
Ecker Road has now won two of his eight starts and Hill believes the five-year-old gelding son of Snippetson has promise.
“He’s got a big future, if he learns to settle,” Bruce Hill told Gold Coast Hall Of Famer Steve Hawkins.
“He’s a big strong fella, a real nice horse and will improve a lot on that.”
