The TRJC Meeting For This Sunday Has Been Transferred, (UPDATE)
Jun 20, 2017
The Murwillumbah races scheduled for Sunday 25th June 2017 have been abandoned due to the state of the track following the continual heavy rain along the east coast of NSW.
The Murwillumbah racing surface has received in excess of 220mil of rain in the last ten days with showers continuing over the last 48 hours.
General Manager of the Tweed River Jockey Club advised that NRRA Stewards walked the racing surface on Monday morning, 19th June 2017. The NRRA Stewards inspected the surface following a requested special gallop to determine track rating. The track rating was well into the heavy plus range.
Brian Charman said there had been a significant amount of race meetings abandoned in recent weeks and months due to the weather on the northern rivers which is disappointing and unfortunate for industry participants. Following the track inspection on Monday morning the race meeting scheduled for Murwillumbah on Sunday was in definite risk of not proceeding. The NRRA Stewards and Racing NSW made a decision on Monday afternoon to transfer the meeting, fully supported by the Tweed River Jockey Club in the best interests of racing, to Coffs Harbour on Sunday 25th June 2017.
Brian Charman said he was looking forward to the new racing season and some a change of luck with the weather when Murwillumbah races again on the newly scheduled Murwillumbah Cup date on Friday 25th August 2017.
